Office Building on Chatziantoniou Street in Marousi_2009
The building houses office spaces and is situated on a main arterial route. From the outset of the design, special emphasis was given to the massing and to ways of assimilating the building into its surroundings. The scaled articulation of the volumes is the first thing to be observed in this project.
The building’s façade as seen from the main street is subdivided into three Π-shaped volumes, which retreat gradually from east to west. In this manner, the building’s large bulk is kept at a distance from the narrow side-street, respectful of the small scale of the neighbourhood, while it simultaneously frames and showcases the existing palm tree situated on the left side of the plot. The materials which dominate the building’s surfaces are exposed concrete, which bestows plasticity and compactness, and glass, where transparency of the building’s shell is desired. The eastern and western elevations feature a matrix of small square openings allowing a view from inside while safeguarding privacy from the surrounding buildings. Almost the entire surface of the northern elevation is covered by energy efficient panels of smart glass on which are attached metal blinds with orthogonal section
