Asso.subsea is a subsea infrastructure installation company offering offshore solutions worldwide. Their new base in Elefsina houses their headquarters and their technical base with an in-house Research & Development department for the design and production of tools for submarine cable installations.
The goal was to create a single linear volume, running from north to south, which is however distinctly divided into the part of the office spaces (north) and the part of the industrial facilities (south) in a more direct contact with the sea.
The dominant synthetic element is the large perforated aluminum curtains measuring 6.20 x 9.40 m., which are placed on the west and east faces in front of the curtain wall-type glass curtains, in order to create a second shell of protection from the sun and privacy. These shades aim to improve the bioclimatic behavior of the building, offering better working spaces inside and significantly reducing the energy consumption required to cool the spaces during the summer season.
Design of the spaces inside focused on flexibility since the large number of personnelcoming from different departments keeps changing size and needs. The use of materials such as glass surfaces act as open spaces for group and individual work when and where required. Natural wood, metal perforated surfaces, illuminated u-glass walls, scattered plants and special detailsin furniture and lighting, compose the atmosphere that a contemporary office building should have with wellbeing in its heart.
As far as the Industrial Building is concerned, it is covered around the perimeter with heat-insulating siding panels, with color alternation of gray and white, which define the vertical zones of the openings, in order to match with the vertical shading panels of the northern part of the building.
