An existing café-bar gave its place, after many years of activity, in one of the completely new space, with a special morphological identity. The plot that welcomed the Beachcomber Restaurant Cocktail Bar, is located in Stalis in the prefecture of Heraklion. Its trapezoidal shape, proximity to the water, orientation and the view to the sea horizon, were the main parameters that led to the composition of the architectural ensemble.

Open, closed, sheltered areas with the possibility of shading at the required hours, related levels depending on the functions as they differ during the day and night, spaces that fit into a Mediterranean environment by the sea, blend harmoniously through rough, earthy materials such as stone, cement and wood and interact with the help of gentle planting manipulations with respect to the local flora.

The basic synthetic engravings were curved lines, arches of different circles, which were strictly followed by all volumes and shading levels, in order to maximize the sea front while highlighting the accesses from the road to the beach. An element with a leading role in the space is the stone wall which, following one of these arched carvings along the entire width of the plot, divides it into two functional zones:

– The main service areas, the open-air bar and the kitchen are located northwest of the wall.

– To the northeast of the wall are the auxiliary spaces (wc and underground storage spaces), as well as another volume of two floors, with a shop and a summer open-plan residence.
