Industrial Building Renovation

in Nea Ionia

Renovation of Athena Moutalaski SA Building

The Athena - Moutalaski SA textile industrial complex consists of four building volumes. The object of the project was to transform it into office space. The aim was to integrate and communicate at all levels. A major problem was the complete lack of parking spaces.

The solution chosen was the excavation of an underground parking lot under building b and its integration with the basement of building a. The significant experience of the team of civil engineers in similar projects allowed us to replace some load-bearing masonry with metal elements and to extend - at a depth of 2m - the columns of reinforced concrete.
The fact that the industrial complex had lost its architectural character with a series of interventions in recent years was also a challenge for the architects.

Our intention was to highlight those elements that are preserved to this day and to delete inappropriate additions. Thus, the pleated construction of the roof of building b was preserved, which serves with its excellent orientation and for the installation of photovoltaic elements. On the long and narrow sides of the building block we wanted to emphasize the elongated character of the complex through the unification of the openings. At the junction of buildings a and c, which have different levels , a metal 'bridge' was created, which, in addition to the passage from one building to another, marks the entrance to the complex through a patio / courtyard.
