Oncology Hospital in Koropi

Erasinio

The main ingredient of the central synthetic idea is the creation of the Hospital Road and the development of the other spaces articulated around it. This linear development model of the hospital allows for low buildings and consequently reinforces the human-centric character while also serving to reduce institutionalization, providing significant flexibility and expandability to meet future needs for changes and/or additions of spaces and functions.

Emphasis is given to the "anti-hospital" aesthetic, with an emphasis on the social character of the Road. Shops, cafes, resting areas with large openings to the outdoors, and happenings create an atmosphere of well-being. Additionally, the high height of the space together with the diffusion of natural light from the perforated ceiling creates a feeling of upliftment.

Our goal is to design a holistic hospital, a set of spaces - open and closed, actions and conditions - that heal not only in the narrow sense of the term but also physically and mentally. To achieve this goal, in the design, we closely followed the latest technological developments in the field of health, with a basic principle being human presence.

Earthen materials (such as limestone, colored plaster, etc.) have been selected, and the hospital spaces are generally single-story buildings, with a southern orientation and access to the outdoors, ample natural light, simple geometric shapes, etc.
