Initially, emphasis was placed on the thorough recording of the needs that the company wanted so that the architectural proposal is complete (customer preferences, philosophy and company vision). Our goal was to find the optimal solution for the specific building and for the specific employer by creating an industrial building of modern standards.
The complex consists of a single building volume in the shape of “C” as regards the ground floor and A floor levels, which transforms into a “P” shape at the level of the B floor. In essence, it is the joining of 2 building volumes, in a relationship that follows the turn of the plot, and is achieved through a “neck”, which at the same time creates a protected courtyard-“patio” towards the West.
An existing café-bar gave its place, after many years of activity, in one of the completely new space, with a special morphological identity. The plot that welcomed the Beachcomber Restaurant Cocktail Bar, is located in Stalis in the prefecture of Heraklion. Its trapezoidal shape, proximity to the water, orientation and the view to the sea horizon, were the main parameters that led to the composition of the architectural ensemble.
The central idea of the architectural design is based on the creation of a tourist experiential experience in terms of identity and culture of Crete. Strong concepts that govern the architectural composition in relation to the imposing natural landscape are harmony, silence, and respect.
One of the first questions in this project was whether the specific slope of the land and its distance from the ridge of the mountain would allow the view to the sea in the east. Study of the wider region and alternative scenarios lead to a local raise in height, aiming to gain visual access to the sea.
The site is located in Dionysos Attica and is part of a four unit residential complex between Sokratous and Evripidou. The residence is accessed through Sokratous street and is spread onto four levels of 268 m2 of total floor space.
